Nigerians Mourns As 19 Lives-Lost In Kwara State Road-Crash, FRSC Reports (Full Details)
The tragic road crash in Kwara State has left a nation grieving, with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirming the loss of 19 lives in a press conference addressed by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed in Abuja on Friday.
The fatal accident occurred at Kanbi village along the Olooru new Jebba road at 20:00hrs on Thursday, involving two vehicles: a blue Iveco trailer and a white Toyota Hiace bus. According to Mohammed, preliminary investigations attribute the cause of the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
“From this number, 5 people were injured (3 male adults and 2 female adults), and 19 victims killed,” Mohammed solemnly declared, detailing the composition of the casualties which included adults and children of both genders.
He further disclosed that the injured were taken to Orisun Ayo hospital, where one victim was deposited in the morgue, while families claimed the remaining 18 deceased.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms and among communities in Kwara State and beyond, with calls for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
As the nation comes to terms with this devastating loss of lives, authorities and stakeholders are urged to intensify efforts towards ensuring safer roads for all citizens.
