The controversy began in October when an Abuja federal high court issued an injunction preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing funds to Rivers State. The court’s decision was based on the claim that the state’s House of Assembly had not been properly constituted to approve the 2024 Appropriation Bill, which was presented by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Ajaero assured Rivers State workers that the NLC would strongly oppose any actions that might delay their salaries. He emphasized the union’s commitment to supporting the state council and ensuring that workers’ wages are paid promptly.
