No Protests Planned, Kaduna Students Assure Governor Uba Sani

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani has said that  students in the state have promised not to partake in the planned nationwide protest.

The governor said he got the assurance while speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the Students’ Development Summit organized by his Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs with the theme “Student-Centric Governance: Celebrating 365 Days of Senator Uba Sani’s Impactful Leadership.”

He said that various speakers at the event commended his administration for its unrelenting commitment to improving the educational system and rural revitalization in Kaduna State.

He also stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a broken system from the previous administration.

“While giving my remarks, I highlighted some of our achievements in the educational sector amongst which are; devoting 25% of our budget to education, reduction of tuition fees for state-owned tertiary institutions, construction of 62 new schools, repositioning of our scholarship board to ensure it caters to the undeserved people, rehabilitation of classrooms, training and retraining of teachers, amongst others.

“I also shared with the students my experiences as the Northern Coordinator of the Gani Fawehinmi Scholarship Scheme. In the year 2000, I led an Implementation Team that designed the programme and set the criteria for accessing the scholarship. The Foundation assisted 200 brilliants but indigent students of Northern Nigeria to finish their studies in various institutions of higher learning. It is gratifying to note that most of the beneficiaries of the scheme are now Doctors, Lawyers, Pharmacists, Engineers. They are making their contributions to national development.

“While assuring the students of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly the youths, I used the opportunity to call on the students to shun any protest or activity that will destabilise the peace we enjoy in Kaduna State. In response, the students assured me that they will not partake in any protest but will continue to participate in dialogues on students-related issues and concerns.

“I directed my Senior Special Assistant on Student Matters, Amina Sani Bello to come up with a blueprint for addressing students related issues/concerns and the sustenance of the strategic engagements. Education will remain a top priority of our administration. It is the best investment against poverty and insecurity,” he said.

Uba Sani called on the elite, politicians and businessmen, to move beyond blame and take concrete steps to address the region’s challenges.
