Organized-Labour In Kogi State Orders Compliance With Nationwide-Strike For New Minimum-Wage (Details)
Organized Labour in Kogi State has issued a directive for all unions and affiliates to immediately comply with the nationwide strike aimed at advocating for a new minimum wage. The announcement was made by Comrade Amari Gabriel, the Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), during a meeting with members of the State Executive Council (SEC) in Lokoja on Sunday.
Gabriel urged all union leaders to ensure full compliance with the strike action in the state, emphasizing that the nationwide strike is a vital step in the struggle to liberate Nigerian workers from the grips of hunger, pain, and poverty.
Echoing Gabriel’s sentiments, Comrade Sule Ahmed Tijani, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kogi State, emphasized the importance of total cooperation from workers to achieve the desired objectives. He appealed to all union leaders to enforce the strike effectively, aiming for a complete shutdown across the state.
Vice Chairman of NLC in Kogi State, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo, who also serves as the enforcement chairman for the strike, called on chapter chairmen to be present at their duty posts for enforcement. He assured that a monitoring committee would be deployed to ensure total compliance throughout Kogi State.
All union leaders present at the meeting pledged to adhere to the directive, affirming their commitment to making the strike impactful.
The nationwide strike, scheduled to commence at midnight on Sunday, comes after the expiration of the May 31 deadline given to the Federal Government by the National body of Organized Labour. The strike aims to intensify pressure for the implementation of a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
