PDP Governors to Challenge Emergency Rule in Rivers State in Court

The PDP governors discussed their plan during a Zoom meeting, where they expressed their strong opposition to the declaration and affirmed their commitment to defending the Constitution, upholding democratic principles, and ensuring the rule of law in Nigeria.
In a communique signed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the governors expressed their disapproval of the President’s suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. They stated that they would instruct their Attorneys General in PDP-controlled states to challenge Section 305(3) of the Nigerian Constitution in court for judicial interpretation.
The governors also expressed solidarity with Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers State during this difficult political period. They urged both the people of Rivers State and Nigerians not to lose hope despite what they described as “unprecedented intimidation.”
The communique also included a message of support: “The Forum stands in solidarity with His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and the good people of Rivers State at this very difficult and trying moment of the state’s political history.”
