Protests Erupt At Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja Following Ward Attendant’s Death
Ward attendants at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, Kogi State, launched a peaceful protest on Tuesday in response to the tragic passing of one of their colleagues, Salamatu Aliu from the Post Natal Ward……READ ALSO Nigeria’s Predicament Severe, But Protests And Violence Not Solutions,” Says Archbishop Onuoha
According to reports, Salamatu Aliu was rushed to the hospital for medical attention on Sunday evening but unfortunately did not receive prompt care from doctors and nurses on duty due to a power outage.
An anonymous source, speaking to DAILY POST, expressed dismay over the alleged negligence, stating, “The negligence displayed by doctors and nurses in the Accident and Emergency Ward at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja is unacceptable. This has prompted our peaceful protest to convey our discontent to the hospital management. Losing a colleague under such circumstances is distressing. The management needs to take concrete steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. Every life is valuable and deserves equal treatment. Unfair practices must stop.”
Following assurances from hospital management that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, the protesters agreed to return to work.
Efforts to reach the hospital management for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s legal adviser, Enny O. Esq., stated that the matter is currently under investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
This incident evokes memories of a previous occurrence in the Accident and Emergency Ward of the same hospital, where relatives of a deceased patient allegedly assaulted medical personnel over negligence, resulting in a temporary strike by hospital staff
