Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, has raised concerns over Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s alleged expenditure of almost ₦2 billion on helicopter services within three months. Rhodes-Vivour questioned the appropriateness of allocating such a significant amount for helicopter transportation while many areas in Lagos still lack access to clean water. He emphasized the disparity between extravagant spending on luxury services and the pressing needs of communities lacking basic amenities.

Expressing his perspective on prudent resource management, Rhodes-Vivour proposed alternative approaches, suggesting the utilization of drones for project supervision instead of helicopters. He argued that this shift would save state funds, which could then be directed towards essential areas like education and human capital development.

Rhodes-Vivour highlighted the potential impact of redirecting funds towards education, stating that with ₦1.2 billion, 1,000 teachers could be paid ₦100,000 monthly for a year. He emphasized his commitment to improving the public education system in Lagos and ensuring efficient use of government resources.

Furthermore, Rhodes-Vivour pledged transparency in government expenditure, vowing that under his leadership, officials would not travel on private jets at public expense. He proposed that any official opting for private travel would bear the cost personally, aligning with his vision of responsible governance and fiscal discipline.
