State Govt Takes Action! Payments To Political Appointees Stopped As Fraudsters Unleash Fake Employment Letters

According to Naija News, the actions of these fraudsters have caused delays in the payment of September salaries to legitimate political appointees in the state.

In response to this issue, Binta Mamman, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, announced that a mandatory screening exercise would be conducted for all political appointees to identify and eliminate the impostors.

Mamman emphasized in a statement that only those who pass the screening would receive their salaries. The statement noted, “We have been alerted to the activities of some unscrupulous individuals who have forged political appointment letters, resulting in the government making payments to individuals who are not genuine appointees.”

She assured the public that the screening process is underway to help the government pinpoint the legitimate beneficiaries. “For clarity, the government has issued appointment letters to approximately 4,000 political appointees across various levels, including Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Coordinators, and Special Assistants. This was done to foster an inclusive government and provide a sense of belonging while reducing unemployment. Unfortunately, some bad actors have undermined these efforts by forging appointment letters.”

Mamman expressed concern over the state’s substantial salary portfolio, which exceeds ₦600 million, and stressed that the government is committed to identifying the real appointees. “This is essential for monitoring the system and minimizing expenses, allowing funds to be redirected to other critical areas,” she said.

She further explained that Governor Bago’s intentions behind promoting inclusivity are genuine, but underscored the necessity of identifying and removing those with fraudulent appointments from the system. “The screening is ongoing, and all legitimate appointees must present themselves before the committee, while those with forged appointments will be removed from the rolls.”
