Trump Declines Iran’s Alleged Offer To Become Supreme Leader
According to Ireporter Online, United States President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday that he turned down a purported request from Iran to become the country’s Supreme Leader. Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) annual fundraising dinner in Washington, D.C., Trump claimed that Tehran sought to engage him in the role, but he declined. He added that Iran is eager to reach a deal with the US but hesitant to express it openly.
Trump stated, “Iran wants me to be their Supreme Leader but I don’t want. Thank you. It’s never been the head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran. I don’t want it.” He further emphasized that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East remains a military operation, asserting that US forces are actively targeting Iran.
In response, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, denied reports of any ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, contradicting Trump’s comments about potential diplomatic progress. “We have heard such reports in the media, but according to my information, no direct or indirect talks have taken place so far,” AFP quoted the envoy as saying. He noted that while friendly nations occasionally attempt mediation, no concrete engagement has occurred and described current hostilities as “illegitimate aggression.”
Iran’s military also refuted claims of diplomatic discussions with the United States. Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that Washington is effectively “negotiating with itself,” according to state media. He cautioned that regional stability remains dependent on Iran’s military posture and warned that pre-conflict economic conditions would not return unless the US changes its approach.
