Tunde Bakare Criticizes EFCC And ICPC’s Role In Combating Corruption In Nigeria
During a men’s symposium celebrating Pastor Chinedu Ezekwesili’s 70th birthday in Abuja, Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, made a bold statement, asserting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are incapable of eradicating corruption in Nigeria.
Bakare emphasized that the true antidote to corruption lies in the manifestation of righteousness among the sons of God. He dismissed the efficacy of establishing committees to investigate corruption, particularly when those tasked with executing such investigations are themselves corrupt.
“There are many theories about how to end corruption in Nigeria; EFCC can’t do it; ICPC can’t fix it,” Bakare declared, emphasizing the need for righteous authority to prevail.
His remarks underscore a broader call for a return to God’s original purpose across all spheres of influence, including family, businesses, and national governance.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Kogi State Government has accused the EFCC of engaging in a witch-hunt against the immediate past governor, Yahaya Bello. The state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, lambasted the EFCC’s actions, alleging that political actors around the Presidency were orchestrating an effort to tarnish Bello’s image.
Fanwo vehemently denied any misappropriation of state funds and called on the EFCC to refrain from dragging the name of Kogi State into its ongoing persecution. He urged President Bola Tinubu to order a special probe into the situation before the EFCC becomes a pawn in the hands of political hawks.
Amidst these allegations, the Kogi government reiterates its commitment to transparency, accountability, and probity, emphasizing that any personal grievances should be addressed without tarnishing the state’s reputation.
