Veteran Actor Baba Wande Reveals Why He Quit Acting: ‘I Was Offered Just N70,000 for Two States

Veteran Yoruba actor Kareem Adepoju, widely known as Baba Wande, has shed light on his surprising decision to step away from the film industry. In a recent video interview on Kunleafod TV, hosted by Kunle Afod, Baba Wande shared the reasons behind his hiatus from acting.

During the interview, Baba Wande disclosed that he decided to halt his acting career after being offered a role with a payment of just seventy thousand naira for work in two different states. This payment, he explained, was not sufficient to cover his expenses, particularly given the current economic challenges in Nigeria.

“I don’t go to movie locations anymore because the money they are offering is not encouraging at all,” Baba Wande stated. “I stopped acting in movies because I was offered a role in two states with a payment of seventy thousand naira. Given the high cost of living and the recent fuel price hikes, it’s impossible for me to accept such an offer.”

Baba Wande emphasized that unless he receives a significantly better offer, he remains reluctant to return to the movie scene. His comments highlight a broader issue in the Nigerian film industry, where financial constraints are affecting the participation of seasoned actors.

As the industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether adjustments in compensation will be made to attract and retain experienced talent like Baba Wande. For now, the legendary actor’s absence from the screen persists, reflecting his stance on the current state of movie payments.
