The incident unfolded during a gathering of stakeholders from the opposition party’s north-central geopolitical zone on Wednesday, April 17.

Melaye expressed astonishment at Ortom’s presence, questioning how he could comfortably attend a PDP meeting given his alleged anti-party activities, which Melaye claimed contributed to the party’s losses in both the presidential and gubernatorial elections in Benue State.

The confrontation escalated, leading to a verbal altercation between the two prominent figures.

In a separate development, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP is set to present a report on members involved in anti-party activities during the 2023 general elections to the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Thursday.

A senior NWC member confirmed the submission of the report, emphasizing that it is not intended as punitive but rather to identify individuals’ roles and recommend appropriate sanctions.

Besides the anti-party report, the fate of the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, is expected to be a focal point at the NEC meeting, with deliberations on whether he should continue in office or be replaced.
