Why Can’t IPMAN Buy Oil From Dangote Refinery? Join The Discussion

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has revealed that it is still unable to purchase oil directly from the Dangote Refinery. In a recent interview, IPMAN Chairman Abubakar Maigandi emphasized that the association remains dependent on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for its oil supply. This ongoing struggle highlights the challenges IPMAN faces in securing a direct lifting agreement with the refinery.

Maigandi clarified that IPMAN has not accused Dangote of obstructing its members’ access to the refinery, despite previous claims suggesting otherwise. This statement aims to clear any misconceptions surrounding the association’s relationship with Dangote and its operations. The denial comes as the association seeks to strengthen its position and explore avenues for direct purchases from the prominent facility.

In a related development, reports indicate that the NNPCL is considering the termination of its exclusive offtake agreement with the Dangote Refinery. If this occurs, it could open the doors for other marketers, including IPMAN members, to purchase oil directly from the refinery, potentially reshaping the landscape of petroleum distribution in Nigeria. As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on how these developments impact IPMAN and the broader market dynamics.
