Wike Speaks On Having Regrets Pledging “Logistics Support” For Peter Obi

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike says he has no regrets about pledging “logistics support” for the campaigns of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi in the state.

Wike made the remarks on Friday night at a banquet hosted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers for the PDP G5 governors, who are in Port Harcourt for the party’s state-level campaign launch on Saturday.

The Rivers governor made the pledge to Obi on Thursday, when he dedicated the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo Flyover in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Wike, a PDP chieftain, also stated that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, possesses all of the qualities required to lead Nigeria.

Some have criticized the Rivers governor for his support for Obi over his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

“They said I said I’m supporting Obi, I have no regrets saying: Obi is a former governor, if he is coming to Rivers State to campaign, I will give him logistics support, I will give him security,” Wike said on Friday night

A previous governor? Should I say I won’t give him any vehicles? I will not provide him with security? I’m not going to do that; I need to help him with logistics.”

However, the former minister claims that the Labour Party will not win any seats in the state in the upcoming election.

For months, Wike and four other PDP have demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP national chairman as a precondition to support Atiku.

While Wike and his allies have not been seen to campaign for Atiku, it is not clear whether they will support Obi, or Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the contest for Aso Rock’s top job which has been described by analysts and keen observers as a three-horse race.
