Witch-Hunt Or Truth? El-Rufai Vows To Prove Innocence With Quran Oath Amid ₦423 Billion Allegation

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has once again denied allegations of embezzling state funds during his eight-year tenure. This follows claims from the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which accused his administration of misappropriating over ₦423 billion.

In response to the allegations, El-Rufai, speaking on a Hausa program aired on Freedom Radio in Kaduna, expressed his commitment to transparency, insisting that he joined politics to serve the people, not to enrich himself. He reiterated his readiness to swear on the Quran that he never stole public funds.

The former governor explained that he was financially content before entering politics and has been falsely accused without any specific evidence of wrongdoing. He expressed his frustration over what he described as a “witch-hunt” by the Assembly and current state leadership, pointing out that his allies have also been targeted with investigations by anti-corruption agencies such as the ICPC and EFCC.

El-Rufai emphasized that he had already turned to God for justice, having prayed and sought divine intervention. He also mentioned that he had instructed his lawyers to pursue legal action to protect his name, but emphasized that he was leaving the outcome in God’s hands.

Looking ahead, El-Rufai confirmed his intention to return to politics by 2027, stating that there is no retirement in politics, unlike in other forms of government service. He assured the public that he remains committed to serving the people of Kaduna State and working towards the development of the nation.

“I didn’t come into public service to steal or enrich myself. God knows this, and I will continue to stand by the truth,” he concluded.
