Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala.

Obi had previously pledged N20 million to the hospital, along with 15 other institutions. However, while fulfilling his pledge, he accidentally overpaid the hospital by N2.5 million. The hospital’s management reported the overpayment, and in appreciation of their honesty, Obi decided to donate an additional N10 million to them.

During his weekend visit to the hospital, Obi handed over the N10 million check and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting health and educational institutions across the state. He expressed his satisfaction with the institution’s progress, stating, “In line with my commitment to development in key areas like health, education, and poverty alleviation, I visited Our Lady of Lourdes College of Nursing Sciences and was pleased to see the positive impact of our support. Earlier this year, I donated N20 million, and today, I’m adding N10 million in recognition of their excellent work.”

The hospital’s CEO, Rev. Fr. Onuorah Ugochukwu, explained that Obi had initially overpaid by N2.5 million, an error that was also noticed by other institutions. When the hospital informed Obi of the mistake, he appreciated their integrity and responded with the additional donation.

Obi emphasized the importance of transparency and announced that every institution that reported an overpayment would also receive an additional N10 million as a reward for their honesty.
