[BREAKING] Ministerial List: Shehu Sani Leads ‘Protest’ Against El-Rufai’s Nomination (DETAILS)
Shehu Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, has initiated a campaign to prevent the immediate past Kaduna State governor, Nasir El Rufai, from being confirmed as a Minister.
Sani pointed out that El-Rufai had previously been disqualified from holding public office by a committee of the Upper Chamber, which was led by Senator Abubakar Sodangi.
In a statement on Sunday, Senator Sani expressed surprise at seeing El-Rufai’s name on the list as a Ministerial nominee, considering his evident religious bias, which Sani believes poses a threat to the unity of the nation.
He cautioned that the former FCT Minister, who served under President Olusegun Obasanjo, has a history of religious intolerance, extremism, and disregard for the rule of law.
According to the human rights activist, these attributes disqualify the ex-Kaduna State governor from receiving the legislature’s approval as a Minister. Sani firmly believes that El-Rufai is undeserving of the position.
He called upon the three Senators from Kaduna to act with integrity and resist the confirmation and approval of the former governor for the sake of the nation’s future and its posterity.
The statement read: “The Senate should uphold and respect the 2008 Senator Sodangi Committee that barred him from holding public office.
“Particularly the 3 Senators from Kaduna State; they must categorically and unambiguously reject Elrufai’s nomination.
“Silence is a great disservice and betrayal of the people of Kaduna state who have suffered under his eight years of tyranny and persecution.
“Nigerian Senators should save the country from the danger and jeopardy of harbouring, incubating and crowning such a man into the palace of power.
“A man with a track record of religious intolerance, extremism and disrespect for the rule of law doesn’t deserve the gavel of approval from the legislature. He doesn’t deserve to be a minister.
“Any opposition Senator that confirms El-Rufai has betrayed the moral conscience of the people of this country; any ruling party Senator that confirms El-Rufai has brought in a destructive agent into the government of Tinubu.
Confirming El-rufai as a Minister is a suicidal mission for the Tinubu administration.”
