BREAKING: Court Stops Conduct Of Fresh Election (DETAILS)

On Tuesday, a Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Usman Na’abba, issued an order restraining the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (KACCIMA) from taking any action or decision related to the election of new Executive Council Members. The chamber had planned to hold the election on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

The court granted the interim order following a Motion Ex-parte presented by the applicants’ counsel, Abba Hikima, on behalf of 35 financial members of the chamber.

The applicants, who are corporate members of the chamber, alleged discriminatory treatment and disenfranchisement by the respondent.

They also claimed that the chosen venue for the election was deliberately a small hotel room, inadequate to accommodate the business community of Kano State as the electorate.

Furthermore, the court ordered all parties to maintain the status quo until the hearing and determination of the Originating Motion on August 15, 2023.

The Kano State Chamber of Commerce has been facing leadership crises and legal battles since the alleged imposition of a caretaker committee by the Kano state Government in 2022.
