Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has instructed that each student of Kwara origin in public-owned tertiary institutions be paid ₦10,000.

Additionally, the Governor has given approval for a stipend of ₦10,000 each to be given to certain categories of security agents through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) Office.

This support for students is a departure from the previous bursary award, which was limited to final year students of tertiary institutions. Under this new initiative, all students in public-owned tertiary institutions in Kwara State will receive a one-time payment of ₦10,000. Previously, the Governor had already increased the bursary award for final year students from ₦5,000 to ₦10,000.

To ensure a smooth coordination of this support, the Governor has established a committee to oversee the disbursement of funds.

The committee, chaired by Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, who is also the chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), will include officials from the Ministry of Tertiary Institution, the bursary department, the Ministry of Finance, and representatives from the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Kwara State.

Eligible students will need to apply for the state bursary support by filling in the required information and submitting the necessary documents through a web link provided by the committee. Specific dates for the application process will also be announced.

The Governor’s initiative aims to provide financial support to students and security agents, who serve as the first line of defense in the state. This is part of the government’s efforts to invest in education and improve the welfare of its citizens in Kwara State.
