BREAKING: The President Has Dissolved Current Government – Presidency (DETAILS)
Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has taken the step of dismissing the prime minister and dissolving the government, as confirmed by the presidency’s secretary general, Aboudramane Cisse, on Friday.
No specific reason was provided for this unexpected decision.
Cisse stated, “The president expresses his gratitude to Prime Minister Patrick Achi and to all members of the government for their commitment to serving the nation over the past years.”
They will continue in their roles on an interim basis until a new prime minister and government are appointed.
It’s not unusual for Ivory Coast presidents to make sudden, significant alterations to their governments.
Last April, Achi and his government tendered their resignations after Ouattara revealed plans to reduce ministerial positions and streamline the cabinet’s size. A week later, the prime minister was re-appointed.
Ivory Coast is slated to hold a presidential election in 2025. While Ouattara secured re-election in 2020, he has not yet indicated whether he will seek another term.
