In 2006, Hezbollah and Israel engaged in a 34-day war resulting in over 1,200 casualties in Lebanon, predominantly civilians, and 160 in Israel, mostly soldiers.

Israel has maintained a stringent blockade on Gaza since 2007, following Hamas’s assumption of power.

Conflict levels in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute have surged since early the previous year.

In its statement, Hezbollah underscored that the Hamas operation in Israel was a “reaction to the ongoing transgressions of the occupation and the continual assault on sacred sites.”

The Iran-backed group, designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and Israel, also conveyed that the Hamas operation conveys “a message to the Arab and Muslim world and the entire international community, especially those pursuing normalization.”

Washington has been pushing for Israel and Saudi Arabia to establish diplomatic ties.

The European Union, United States, and Israel categorize Hamas as a terrorist organization.
