Laguda secured 30 votes, surpassing three other contestants—Raheed Owokoniran, Lawal Kabir, and Manzu Jemila—who received no votes. The total votes cast aligned with the number of delegates, comprising five from each of the six wards, accredited delegates, and valid votes.
Endorsed by party leaders in the constituency and enjoying the support of Gbajabiamila, Laguda’s candidacy was emphasized before the primary. Lagos APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, affirmed that the party holds the final decision on the primary, emphasizing the supremacy of the party.
The shadow poll occurred at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, overseen by a primary panel led by Bukar Yusuf, an APC chieftain, with members Dapo Lam-Adesina, Ismait Alagbada, Sulaiman Gazali, and Niyi Akinsiji.
After vote counting, Yusuf declared Fuad Laguda the winner, with only two contenders—Laguda and Owokoniran—present at the venue. Laguda and Owokoniran signed the primary result sheet and shared a congratulatory moment.
A delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Gabriel Abidakun Akanbi, witnessed the exercise. Southwest and Lagos APC leaders, including Lateef Ibirogba, Ayodele Adewale, Murtala Seriki, and Idris Aregbe, commended the process as free and fair.
Laguda expressed gratitude to delegates, party leaders, and the constituency, pledging to justify the confidence placed in him. He emphasized collaboration with other aspirants as part of a united political family.
House of Assembly member Elliot praised the transparent, fair, and orderly nature of the primary, congratulating Laguda and the party on its success. Ibirogba noted that party leaders would lead reconciliation efforts to pacify any aggrieved contenders.
Surulere APC chairman, Sheriff Balogun, announced plans for party members to mobilize for the upcoming by-election.
