According to the NLC, Abure’s disregard for court rulings and his failure to garner the confidence of key stakeholders within the party have been consistent issues.

The statement highlights: “Mr. Abure’s recent remarks, filled with absurdity and devoid of substance, would have been dismissed if not for our obligation to keep workers and Nigerians informed. He has repeatedly defied a court judgment and terms of settlement overseen by INEC, which mandate an all-inclusive National Convention for the Labour Party.”

Asserting their role as the institutional custodians of the Labour Party, the NLC underscores historical facts, legal standing, and court decisions to support their call for Abure’s resignation.

The statement continues: “In case Mr. Abure conveniently forgets, a judgment delivered by Justice Gabriel Kolawole on March 20, 2018, affirmed that the Labour Party is owned by the Nigeria Labour Congress. This necessitates an all-inclusive National Convention to rectify the mismanagement under Abure’s leadership.”

Concluding the statement, the NLC expresses sympathy for Abure’s apparent denial of reality, attributing it to his consistent disregard for legal rulings and disdain for senior figures within the labor movement.

The statement condemns Abure’s consistent disregard for court rulings and notes that he has lost the confidence of most critical stakeholders within the party.

It reads: “The absurd and nonsensical remarks by Mr. Julius Abure through his proxy would have been dismissed by the leadership of the NLC Political Commission. However, we have an obligation to remind workers and Nigerians that Mr. Abure has repeatedly violated a court judgment and terms of settlement supervised by INEC, which require an all-inclusive National Convention for the Labour Party.

“While Mr. Julius Abure attempts to sidestep the issues raised in our previous press release, where we demanded his immediate resignation for convening a National Convention over which he has no sole proprietorship, we remind him that the Nigeria Labour Congress remains the institutional custodian of the Labour Party. This assertion is backed by historical facts, legal precedents, and court rulings, forming the basis for our demand as critical stakeholders for Abure’s resignation.

Nothing will deter us from this mission, not even the futile attempts of a faltering aspiring ‘politrickster’ who has lost the confidence of most critical stakeholders in the Labour Party. Nigerian workers will always reclaim what is rightfully ours, especially with the law on our side.”
