Chaos In Abuja: Police Open Fire As Protesters Invade Eagle Square
Police repeatedly fired shots into the air to disperse protesters who had stormed Eagle Square in Abuja, a location initially denied to them by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Our correspondent at the scene reported that the protesters scattered in all directions, trying to avoid being hit by bullets.
BusinessDay observed that the protesters had marched from the National Stadium to Eagle Square, voicing their grievances about the high cost of living in Nigeria.
It was also noted that food sellers were doing brisk business as shop owners stayed away during the protest.
The police claimed that the protesters had thrown dynamite at them, prompting them to fire tear gas canisters to maintain order.
The #EndBadGovernance protest aimed to highlight the escalating cost of living in Nigeria.
