According to Ireporter Online, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Nigerian Army for its intensified operations against pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering in the state, noting that the interventions are already producing positive outcomes.

The governor gave the commendation on Friday when the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt. The visit, which also included the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6th Division, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, and other senior military officers, formed part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day celebration scheduled to hold in Rivers State.

Fubara stated that the sustained military crackdown on oil theft and related crimes had significantly improved crude oil production levels, thereby boosting national revenue. He also highlighted that the operations of the 6th Division in Port Harcourt had contributed meaningfully to the protection of lives and property across the state.

The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nelson Chukwudi, congratulated the Army Chief on his appointment and expressed optimism that the security sector would continue to witness further improvements under his leadership.

He further remarked that the decision to host the Army Day celebration in Rivers State was a strong indication of the state’s relative peace and its importance in national security operations. Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continued collaboration with the military to ensure effective security operations in the state.

“We are truly appreciative of the work you are doing, and the positive impact is evident. We will continue to provide the needed support to ensure your success,” the governor was quoted as saying.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government for its consistent support to the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army, particularly in providing infrastructure and logistics for operational activities and the ongoing celebration.

He explained that the 163rd Nigerian Army Day celebration would feature a series of community-focused activities designed to strengthen civil-military relations and enhance public trust in the armed forces.
