Abuja In Crisis: Police Launch Major Crackdown On Vehicles Without Plates To Combat Deadly ‘One Chance’ Robberies

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Benneth C. Igweh, has initiated a crackdown on vehicles operating in Abuja without number plates or with only a single plate. This move comes in response to a surge in ‘one chance’ armed robberies across the city.

In a statement released on Saturday night, Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh announced that vehicles lacking proper number plates will be seized, and drivers will face arrest and prosecution.

SP Adeh explained that many of these ‘one chance’ robbery incidents are linked to vehicles with incomplete or missing plates, raising concerns among residents about the police’s ability to tackle the issue effectively.

Reports from DAILY POST indicate that numerous victims have been found dead or missing due to these robberies, sparking outrage among Abuja residents.

Additionally, the police have issued warnings to car dealers in the FCT. They are instructed not to park their vehicles in unauthorized areas and must adhere to the curfew of 6 p.m. Any violations will result in strict legal consequences.

SP Adeh emphasized that these measures align with section 25 (5) of the Federal Capital Territory Road Transport Regulation Act, 2005.
