Under this initiative, a comprehensive reform of laws, including electoral laws, is underway to address the challenges faced by the justice sector and enhance its efficiency.

At a media briefing in Abuja, Fagbemi disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), is organizing a National Summit on the Justice Sector to address the issues hindering the effectiveness of Nigerian laws.

Scheduled to take place from April 24 to 25, 2024, the Summit, themed “Repositioning the Justice System: Constitutional, Statutory, and Operational Reforms for Access and Efficiency,” aims to bring together legal experts, professionals, and stakeholders to develop practical solutions for improving the accessibility and efficiency of the justice system.

Key objectives of the Summit include the review and adoption of the revised National Policy on Justice 2024 – 2028, which focuses on prison reforms, access to justice, and the review of electoral laws. Additionally, the Summit will deliberate on draft legislations to address challenges in judicial appointments, funding for the judiciary, and the reduction of delays in justice delivery.

Fagbemi emphasized the importance of collective action and collaboration to overcome the obstacles facing the justice sector, expressing confidence that the Summit will pave the way for positive change and progress in Nigeria’s legal system.
