Aisha Yesufu To Atiku: ‘Call Your Supporters To Order
Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to caution his supporters over what she described as attacks on supporters of Peter Obi on social media.
According to IReporter Online, Yesufu made the appeal in a post shared on her official X account on Tuesday evening.
She alleged that supporters of Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had intensified their attacks on Obi and his supporters online.
Yesufu said she had personally become a target of the alleged attacks and urged Atiku to intervene by calling his supporters to order.
The activist, who previously worked with Atiku within the same political camp, said she expected greater political decency and sportsmanship among opposition supporters, particularly as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
She argued that instead of attacking one another, supporters of opposition candidates should concentrate on the larger objective of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Meanwhile, Yesufu has also disclosed that her approach to supporting Peter Obi in the 2027 election will differ from her involvement in his 2023 presidential campaign.
She explained that while she travelled extensively with Obi during the 2023 campaign to help counter ethnic and religious narratives surrounding his candidacy, her focus this time would be more on grassroots mobilisation and protecting votes.
Yesufu said supporters should establish strong networks at polling units to coordinate activities, monitor voting and follow the results through the collation process.
She also urged voters to understand how election results are recorded, stressing the importance of ensuring that votes cast at polling units are accurately entered and monitored through subsequent stages of collation.
The activist clarified that her decision not to travel around the country with Obi as frequently as she did in 2023 does not amount to withdrawing her support for his presidential ambition.
Instead, she said she would focus on other activities aimed at strengthening the campaign and ensuring that supporters are adequately organised ahead of election day.
Yesufu further noted that several young Nigerians were already contributing to the campaign through voter mobilisation, photography, content creation and other forms of support.
