2027: Aisha Yesufu Reveals Why She Won’t Campaign With Peter Obi
A chieftain of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has explained that she will not travel extensively across the country with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as she did during the 2023 general election campaign.
According to IReporter Online, Yesufu made the clarification in a video shared on her official X account while discussing her plans and priorities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Reflecting on her role during the 2023 election, the activist said her primary objective at the time was to help Nigerians understand that Obi’s presidential ambition was not driven by ethnic or religious considerations.
She explained that she wanted voters from different backgrounds to view Obi as a candidate capable of representing Nigerians regardless of their ethnicity, religion or region.
Yesufu said the campaign helped change the perception of some Nigerians who initially doubted Obi’s chances of making a significant impact in the election.
According to her, several people who had previously been sceptical eventually became convinced that Obi could mount a serious challenge for the presidency.
However, she disclosed that her strategy for the 2027 election would be different, with greater emphasis on mobilising supporters and ensuring that votes cast for Obi are properly protected throughout the electoral process.
Yesufu urged supporters to establish strong networks at polling units ahead of election day, saying such structures would help coordinate activities and monitor the voting and collation of results.
She also encouraged voters to understand the procedures for recording election results, stressing that proper monitoring would help prevent errors and possible manipulation.
The activist specifically urged supporters to monitor their votes from the polling unit through the ward collation centre, insisting that results recorded at the polling unit must accurately reflect the votes cast.
Yesufu clarified that her decision not to accompany Obi on extensive nationwide tours should not be interpreted as a withdrawal of support for his presidential ambition.
Rather, she said she would continue to contribute to the campaign while concentrating on other activities she considers necessary to strengthen the movement and protect votes.
She further disclosed that many young Nigerians were already contributing to the campaign in different capacities, including voter mobilisation, photography, content creation and other forms of grassroots support.
