President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, at the State House in Abuja.

According to IReporter Online, the meeting centred on the management and disposal of properties seized by the anti-graft agency across the country.

A statement from the State House media office said the discussions focused on ensuring that the handling and eventual disposal of the seized properties are conducted transparently and in accordance with established accountability procedures.

The development comes shortly after President Tinubu reportedly intervened in the dispute between the EFCC and the Osun State Government over the freezing of the state’s accounts.

The anti-graft agency had obtained an order to freeze the accounts on August 5, ahead of the Osun State governorship election, citing an ongoing investigation into the alleged mismanagement of ecology funds, intervention funds and allocations received through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The funds under investigation were reportedly valued at approximately ₦11 billion.

The Osun State Government subsequently approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the EFCC’s action, seeking to have the freezing order overturned and demanding ₦2 billion in exemplary damages.

The state government also accused the commission of conducting what it described as an unsubstantiated witch-hunt against the administration since March.

However, following his declaration as the winner of the governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that he had directed the state Attorney General to withdraw the legal action against the EFCC.

Adeleke, speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, credited President Tinubu’s intervention with helping to resolve the dispute.

The governor said he had decided to move past the disagreement, noting that the President’s intervention had addressed the matter to his satisfaction.

The latest meeting between the President, the EFCC chairman and the Housing Minister is expected to further reinforce efforts to establish transparent procedures for managing and disposing of properties recovered or seized in connection with financial crimes.
