2027: Peter Obi Has No Hope Of Winning Presidential Election – Fayose
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has little chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.
According to IReporter Online, Fayose made the remark during an interview on TVC’s Politics Tonight, where he assessed the prospects of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fayose acknowledged Obi as a highly regarded Nigerian and described him as a “fantastic” individual, but maintained that the former Anambra State governor’s presidential ambition had suffered a major setback following the division within the opposition camp.
The former governor pointed to the decision of Obi to move to the NDC while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remained with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the development weakened the opposition’s chances of mounting a formidable challenge in 2027.
He said the split had effectively diminished the optimism surrounding Obi’s presidential ambition, stressing that the opposition could struggle to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if its major figures fail to unite.
Fayose also argued that Obi’s performance and campaign strategy during the 2023 presidential election had given political opponents enough insight into his approach, making it more difficult for him to surprise them in the next election.
He recalled how opposition politicians previously united to challenge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which eventually resulted in the APC taking control of the Federal Government.
According to him, the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as the APC’s presidential candidate, alongside the support and political influence of other major figures, helped the opposition coalition achieve victory at the time.
Fayose therefore urged opposition politicians to learn from the past and work towards forming a united political force if they genuinely intend to challenge the APC in 2027.
He maintained that without such unity, the opposition could once again struggle to make a significant impact in the presidential contest.
