Amaechi Denies Involvement in Election Rigging, Vows to Combat Electoral Fraud if Elected

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly denied ever participating in election rigging, challenging critics to provide evidence of his involvement in electoral malpractice. The former Rivers State governor made these declarations during a recent X Spaces conversation, where he addressed Nigeria’s contentious electoral history.

“I dare any politician, living or deceased, to come forward and accuse me of rigging elections,” Amaechi stated emphatically. He pointed fingers at state governors and government agencies, alleging they are typically complicit in diverting public funds to manipulate election outcomes.

The presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) pledged to prioritize electoral integrity if elected in 2027, promising: “I will not only abstain from rigging but will actively work to eliminate it from our political system.” His comments come weeks after proposing a one-term presidency to honor Nigeria’s unofficial power rotation agreement between north and south.

Political analysts note Amaechi’s statements position him as a reform candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, though some opponents question his sudden emphasis on electoral purity after decades in politics.
