NCDMB Boosts Bayelsa Media Awards Prize to ₦1 Million
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has significantly increased prize money for its sponsored categories in the Bayelsa Media Awards (BMA) to ₦1 million per winner, plus a new laptop. This represents a major jump from the previous ₦150,000 award.
Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, NCDMB’s General Manager of Corporate Communications, announced the enhanced prizes on Friday in Yenagoa, stating the move aligns with the Board’s commitment to fostering excellence in oil and gas reporting and economic journalism in the Niger Delta region.
The upgraded awards cover three categories:
-
Niger Delta Region’s Oil and Gas Print Reporter of the Year
-
Niger Delta Region’s Oil & Gas Broadcast Reporter of the Year
-
Niger Delta Region’s Economy Reporter of the Year
Ezeobi credited Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Ogbe for approving the increase, noting it reflects NCDMB’s recognition of media’s crucial role in promoting local content. “We aim to celebrate excellence to motivate dedication and inspire future generations,” Ezeobi stated, adding that the enhancement makes BMA one of Nigeria’s most lucrative media awards.
Victor Binawari, BMA Project Manager, welcomed the development, calling NCDMB the awards’ most consistent partner since 2015. With over 170 entries received this year, Binawari said the increased prizes will raise competition standards and further professionalize regional media practice.
The judging process runs from August 1 to September 20, with winners to be announced at an October 9 ceremony in Yenagoa.
