Defence Minister Slams Amaechi: Accuses Him Of Using Citizens’ Suffering For Political Gains Amidst Protests

According to a report by Naija News, Amaechi, during an interview with Igbere TV, expressed disappointment over the lack of proactive responses, particularly from the youth, in confronting the rising cost of living. He remarked that he had expected widespread protests demanding action on the worsening economic situation.

In response, Defence Ministry spokesperson Henshaw Ogubike issued a statement on behalf of Dr. Matawalle, condemning Amaechi’s “inflammatory remarks” as dangerous and irresponsible, especially given his former role as a public servant.

Matawalle said, “It is reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant like Amaechi to provoke Nigerians against their government at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working hard to tackle the nation’s challenges through ongoing reforms.”

He further accused Amaechi of exploiting the genuine struggles of citizens for political gain, calling his actions “absurd, preposterous, and shameful.”

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace and stability, Matawalle warned that attempts to destabilize the country through incitement would not be tolerated. He emphasized that Amaechi should be working with the government to advance the nation’s progress, instead of engaging in divisive rhetoric.

“This serves as a final warning to Amaechi and his allies,” Matawalle added.
