Minister Claims Tinubu Govt Is Crushing Insecurity—Here’s The Surprising Truth!

Nigeria’s Minister for Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reiterated that the current administration is making significant strides in addressing the nation’s security challenges. He emphasized that safeguarding the country remains a key focus in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at the inaugural international conference organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday, Idris highlighted the government’s efforts in combatting insecurity. The event, themed “Interrogating the Root Causes of Violence in the Sahel and Its Impact on Nigeria’s Territorial Integrity,” brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for overcoming violence in the Sahel region.

In his address, Idris stressed that President Tinubu is dedicated to enhancing investments in technology, manpower, and intelligence to tackle insecurity. He acknowledged the Sahel region’s growing instability, which has fueled violence, terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and extremism—issues that directly impact Nigeria due to its porous borders with Sahelian countries.

“Nigeria shares a long and porous border with several conflict-ridden Sahelian nations, leaving us vulnerable to the spillover effects of these conflicts. This threatens not only our security but also challenges our ability to maintain effective control over our borders,” Idris said.

The Minister noted that the root causes of violence in the Sahel have been linked to socioeconomic marginalization, weak governance, environmental degradation, climate change, and organized crime. These issues have contributed to Nigeria’s security challenges, affecting the economy, internal stability, and the well-being of its citizens.

“Insecurity Is a Global Challenge”

Idris emphasized that no single country can address insecurity on its own. He explained that the violence in the Sahel is driven by complex issues such as economic exclusion, weak governance, environmental degradation, and criminal networks, which require a collective effort.

“Nigeria has intensified its cooperation with neighboring countries and regional partners, enhancing joint military operations such as the Multinational Joint Task Force. We are also supporting initiatives to stabilize the Sahel region,” Idris added.

Domestically, the Tinubu administration has prioritized security, investing in equipment, manpower, and intelligence gathering as part of its efforts to combat insecurity. According to Idris, these investments are yielding results as the country continues to make headway in securing its borders and addressing internal threats.

He also called for greater collaboration between government agencies, international partners, and security experts to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity and contribute to long-term peace in the Sahel.

The conference featured remarks from notable figures including former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who chaired the event, and Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, who delivered the keynote address. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, was the honored guest at the summit.

Other distinguished attendees included Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa, Katsina State Governor Alhaji Umar Dikko Radda, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, and Minister of Steel Development Alhaji Shuaibu Abubakar.
