The sabotage resulted in widespread service disruptions affecting various sectors, including banking, education, and telecommunications, highlighting the vulnerability of African countries to such attacks.
Omokri emphasized the importance of patronizing locally made products and services, citing the resilience of Nigerian-owned telecom company, Globacom, which was not affected by the attack due to its investment in tailor-made infrastructure. He stressed the need for the government and citizens to support initiatives that safeguard the country’s interests and security.
Adamu echoed Omokri’s concerns, emphasizing that Africa’s security strategies will remain vulnerable as long as critical infrastructure like submarine cables are susceptible to attacks. He called for the development of robust strategies by African leaders to protect vital infrastructure and ensure continuity of services during crises.
Furthermore, Adamu urged the African Union and the African Development Bank to collaborate on mapping out strategies to mitigate similar challenges in the future and enhance the continent’s resilience to cyber threats.
In conclusion, both Omokri and Adamu emphasized the urgency of proactive measures to safeguard Africa’s infrastructure and called for inclusivity and diversity in national security strategy development to address overlooked vulnerabilities effectively.
