Double Tragedy: Sylvester Oromoni’s Family Mourns Mother 7 Months Post Court Decision

Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of late Sylvester Oromoni, has tragically passed away following a prolonged battle with blood pressure-related complications. Her death marks another sorrowful chapter in the...READ MORE…
high-profile case surrounding her son, who was a student at Dowen College, Lagos.
Family sources revealed that Rosemary passed away in late November 2024, just seven months after a Lagos special court ruled against the family in their quest for justice.
Sylvester Oromoni Jr., aged 12, died on November 30, 2021, under controversial circumstances. His parents alleged he was bullied, beaten, and force-fed a chemical substance by five of his peers at Dowen College, claims the school denied, stating his injuries were sustained during football.
The initial autopsy in January 2022 attributed Sylvester’s death to “acute lung injury due to chemical intoxication.” However, this finding was later contested, and a subsequent autopsy by Lagos’s Department of Public Prosecution concluded he died of natural causes.
In April 2024, a coroner’s court determined that Sylvester succumbed to sepsis caused by lung and kidney infections stemming from an ankle injury. The accused students, Favour Benjamin, Micheal Kashamu, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, and Kenneth Inyang, were cleared and released in 2022.
Rosemary’s death adds to the grief of the Oromoni family, who have tirelessly fought for justice since 2021. Sylvester’s father, Sylvester Oromoni Sr., and the family had kept the boy’s body in a morgue for over two years as a form of protest before his burial in January 2024.
This heartbreaking turn of events underscores the enduring pain and unanswered questions surrounding Sylvester’s untimely death.
