Edo Gets New Chief Judge

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has sworn-in Justice Joe Acha as the new Chief Judge of the state, following the retirement of the former Chief Judge, Justice Esther Edigin.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony at the government house, Obaseki urged Justice Acha to take the oath he had sworn to seriously.

He said the peaceful and orderly transfer of power within the leadership of all arms of government in the state is the single most important hallmark of a civilized working democracy.

He charged the chief judge to always take to heart the solemn oath he took, adding that he has become the custodian of an institution as he represents the hope of the common existence.

“It is my desire and prayer that the justice sector under your stewardship will continue to wax stronger as an institution and deliver not just judgment but justice to all who come to you or before you.

He assured the judiciary of the will to transform the sector by building the capacity of judges to be able to dispense justice without fear or favour.

“That is the legacy this government owes the people for voting massively for us in the last governorship election. Our goal is to help you transform the judiciary system to a very stronger institution,’’ he said.

Responding, the acting chief judge, said that he would continue to interface with other arms of government and deliver justice to the citizenry for peace and progress of the state.
