Edo Governorship: Wike Welcomes Supreme Court Verdict, Calls for Unity and Service
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling affirming Governor Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the September 2024 Edo governorship election.
In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, Wike described the judgment as a decisive validation of the people’s will.
The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the election of Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, for lack of credible evidence.
Wike, a former Rivers State Governor and a prominent figure within the PDP, congratulated Okpebholo and urged him to take the victory as a renewed mandate for selfless service to the people of Edo State.
“This victory is for the people of Edo, who elected Okpebholo,” Wike stated. “It is a call for greater commitment to their service. I congratulate the governor and urge him to keep doing his best for the upliftment of his people.”
He also encouraged PDP’s Ighodalo to put politics aside and collaborate with Okpebholo in advancing the state’s development agenda.
Wike’s message reflects a conciliatory tone and a push for unity amid post-election tensions, even as the PDP continues to process the court’s ruling.
