EFCC, DSS, Police Attempt Forceful Apprehension Of Yahaya Bello Thwarted By Gov Ododo’s Arrival
Recent reports have shed light on a dramatic event involving the attempted apprehension of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other security operatives. According to a report from Daily Trust, a significant number of operatives surrounded Benghazi Street, where Bello’s residence is located. Despite their efforts, they were unable to arrest Bello after waiting for hours. The situation escalated when the EFCC reinforced its team, seemingly intending to forcefully apprehend Bello, akin to the arrest of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, in the past.
During the reinforcement, the EFCC team, accompanied by police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Counter-Terrorism Unit personnel, prepared to execute the arrest. However, the arrival of Bello’s successor, Governor Usman Ododo, altered the course of events. Upon Ododo’s arrival, the closed gate of Bello’s residence was opened.
Despite the presence of protesters and journalists, Governor Ododo declined to address the crowd. Notably, Bello was seen departing in Ododo’s vehicle, prompting security operatives to fire warning shots in an attempt to deter them.
Efforts to reach the EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, for comment were unsuccessful as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.
This incident underscores the intensity of the legal and political turmoil surrounding Bello and highlights the intricate interplay between law enforcement agencies and political figures in Nigeria. As developments unfold, stakeholders await further clarity on the implications of this dramatic event.
