End Of The Ride: Sanwo-Olu Pulls The Plug On 25% Transport Rebate In Lagos
In a shift that impacts the daily commute for many Lagosians, the Lagos State Government has officially declared the conclusion of the 25% discount on transport fares provided across the Lagos State Public Transport System…..CONTINUE READING
The announcement came from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), alerting residents to the imminent end of the subsidy introduced in response to the fuel subsidy removal in 2023.
LAMATA, via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, disclosed that the 25% rebate on regulated public transport buses, ferry, and train services would conclude on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
The notice urged Lagosians to brace themselves for a return to the regular transport fare rates that were in effect before the temporary adjustment made in December.
Initially introduced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to mitigate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal, the 50% rebate on state-owned buses and 25% reduction on commercial yellow buses will cease from Monday, January 29, 2024.
This development prompts commuters to prepare for a resumption to 100% transport fare rates on regulated services, marking the end of the subsidy-driven discount era in the bustling city.
