Exclusive: NDLEA Seizes Multi-Million Naira Tramadol In Hidden Bus Bumper

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted a large consignment of drugs concealed in a specially built compartment within a bus. The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, shared the details in a post on X on Sunday…….READ MORE

He posted a video showing the seized drugs, revealing that the compartment, crafted to evade detection, was being used to smuggle illicit substances across international borders.

Babafemi commented, “Thanks to the intelligence and professionalism of NDLEA officers, no one would have guessed that a vehicle’s bumper needed to be removed to expose this custom-built compartment used to transport drugs.” He added, “This operation has led to the takedown of another drug cartel.”

According to Babafemi, four suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure of multi-million-naira worth of tramadol pills hidden in the bumpers and false compartments of Sienna buses traveling to border towns. These arrests followed weeks of intelligence-gathering and surveillance by NDLEA operatives.

Two individuals, Zahradeen Adamu, 27, and Abubakar Usman, 44, were caught with a vehicle traveling from Onitsha, Anambra state, to Yola, Adamawa state. A second vehicle driven by Abba Usman, 48, was also intercepted. In both vehicles, specially designed steel compartments were uncovered after the removal of the bumpers, revealing 190,960 tramadol pills hidden in spaces meant for spare tires.

Further investigations traced the source of the drugs to Kingsley Mbaeri, an Onitsha-based dealer. A follow-up operation led to Mbaeri’s arrest at his home in Onitsha on January 29, where two vehicles – a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Sienna – were recovered.

This success highlights the ongoing commitment of the NDLEA to dismantle drug trafficking networks in Nigeria.
