Fresh Headache For Naira Marley As Court Issues Production Warrant Against Him Over Alleged Conspiracy And Credit Card Fraud (DETAILS)
In a session held at the Federal High Court in Lagos, a production warrant has been issued for the appearance of Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley. This warrant is a temporary directive compelling the accused or defendant to attend court proceedings and address the charges against them.
Naira Marley is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on eleven counts related to conspiracy and credit card fraud.
During today’s hearing, the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, notified the court that the defendant was unavoidably absent due to police detention for questioning regarding the unfortunate incident involving Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, and requested an adjournment of the trial.
In response, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, also urged the court to issue a production warrant to ensure the defendant’s presence at the next adjourned date.
Justice Oweibo acceded to both requests and issued the production warrant for the defendant. The judge also set a new trial date for October 30, 2023.

On May 20, 2019, the anti-graft agency brought charges against the artist Naira Marley, known for his hit song “Am I a Yahoo Boy,” before the Federal High Court in Lagos. A significant crowd of supporters gathered to witness his arraignment on eleven counts of money laundering and internet fraud.
According to the anti-graft agency, the alleged offenses occurred on various dates between November 26, 2018, and December 11, 2018, as well as May 10, 2019. It is asserted that Naira Marley and his associates collaborated in using various Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims.
The EFCC further alleged that the defendant unlawfully possessed and utilized counterfeit credit cards belonging to different individuals with the intention of defrauding others. These purported offenses are in violation of the provisions outlined in Sections 1 23 (1) (b), 27 (1), and 33(9) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act, 2015.
Before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, Naira Marley entered a plea of not guilty. The court granted him bail in the sum of two million naira, with two sureties required to provide a similar sum.
