The ‘Limpopo’ crooner disclosed that his musical odyssey commenced in the footsteps of his father, who was not just a DJ but also a record seller. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of old-school artists, Kcee reminisces about his early exposure to the music industry.
He recounted, “My father was a DJ, a record seller. I grew up in a home where my father sold records. So all the old-school artists, I know them [their music]. I was selling their records when I was about 5 or 6 years old.”
Highlighting the family’s deep connection to music, Kcee shared that during his secondary school days, he and his brother, E-Money, co-founder of Five Star Music, followed in their father’s footsteps as disc jockeys. The siblings ventured into the world of DJing before transitioning to their remarkable careers.
“I and E-Money were DJs. So, I listened to a lot of artists,” Kcee added, offering insights into the early stages of his musical immersion.
When asked about the secret to his enduring success in the music industry, Kcee attributed it to his keen “ear for a hit song,” emphasizing the importance of recognizing the potential of a song to resonate with audiences.
This revelation provides a glimpse into the multi-generational musical legacy within the Okonkwo family, where Kcee’s journey seamlessly intertwines with his father’s DJ roots, shaping him into the accomplished artist he is today.
