House Of Reps Hopeful, Olaniyan Tomori Hails Passage Of Electoral Act Says It Would Provide A Level Playing Field For All
A strong PDP chieftain in Ondo State and frontline aspirant for Ileoluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency, Hon Olaniyan Femi Tomori has commended the signing into law of the Electoral Act Repeal and Re-enactment Bill by President Buhari describing it as the right step in the right direction towards credible and transparent elections.
iReporteronline reports that President Buhari Friday, signed the much-awaited bill into law at the State House in Abuja.
According to House of Reps hopeful, “It is a commendable step in the right direction, the passage of this bill would ensure a level playing field for all”
Harping on Clause 84 which stipulates that anyone holding a political office – ministers, commissioners, special advisers and others – must relinquish the position before they can be eligible to participate in the electoral process either as a candidate or as a delegate, Hon Tomori says this would ensure that political appointees would not take the advantage of government paraphernalia to oppress their opponents.
” This is a welcome clause indeed as we hope it would bring sanity into the electoral process, gone are the days that Government appointees would use their offices as leverage to seek political positions, henceforth if an appointee is interested in vying for political offices then he should do the needful and resign.
Most importantly the electronic transmission of election results and conduct of early primaries would go a long way in giving credibility to the electoral process. Once Nigerians are aware that their vote would count we would see more participation in the electoral process. It is better late than never”
