Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2024 Edo State elections, has unveiled a transformative plan to revolutionize the state’s educational sector through cutting-edge information and communication technology (ICT).
In a recent interview, Akpata expressed his unwavering commitment to elevating educational standards. “I make bold to say that I can stand shoulder to shoulder with my peers from anywhere in the world because of the quality of education I received here in Nigeria. We owe it as a duty to the next generation to make sure they can get the same kind of education we got, if not better,” he stated. His remarks have resonated deeply with thousands of Nigerians, reflecting a shared aspiration for improved educational excellence.
Akpata’s vision includes a comprehensive ICT integration plan aimed at modernizing educational infrastructure across Edo State. By equipping schools with state-of-the-art digital tools and resources, he intends to bridge the technological gap that currently hinders students’ learning experiences. This initiative will involve deploying high-speed internet, interactive learning platforms, and digital libraries, ensuring that students and educators have access to the latest educational technologies and global resources.
Moreover, Akpata plans to foster partnerships with tech companies and educational institutions to develop specialized ICT training programs. These programs will be designed to enhance digital literacy among students and teachers, preparing them for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy. By focusing on ICT skills, Akpata aims to not only improve educational outcomes but also equip the younger generation with the tools they need to excel in the global workforce.
In addition to improving access and quality, Akpata’s plan includes creating tech hubs and innovation centers within schools to encourage creativity and problem-solving among students. These centers will serve as incubators for new ideas and technological solutions, fostering a culture of innovation from a young age.
Through these initiatives, Akpata seeks to set a new standard for education in Edo State, ensuring that future generations are better prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. His commitment to integrating ICT into education reflects a forward-thinking approach, aiming to transform Edo State into a hub of educational excellence and technological advancement.
