How Nigerian Singer Splurged ₦1.5 Billion On Shopping Spree – Ali Baba Reveals
Famed Nigerian entertainer, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, has shared a story about how an unnamed top Nigerian singer spent a staggering ₦1.5 billion on a shopping spree.
During an interview on the Realty podcast with media personality Eden Oasis, Ali Baba recounted that the singer received ₦400 million for a performance in Dubai and another ₦500 million at an international event.
According to Ali Baba, the singer embarked on a lavish spending spree, burning through ₦1.5 billion in just two months on luxury cars, jewelry, and other expensive items.
The comedian suggested that instead of splurging on material things, the singer could have made smarter financial decisions by investing in land, building a recording studio for artists, or constructing an event center that could generate steady income.
Ali Baba remarked, “I told a well-known musician—he knows who he is—after performing in Dubai for almost ₦400 million and another international gig for ₦500 million, he went on a shopping spree. In under six months, he spent ₦1.5 billion. He could have bought land, built an event center, or set up a top-tier studio, which would bring in consistent revenue. But instead, he spent it all on luxury cars and jewelry.”
He further compared the situation to Asake’s concert in London, explaining that an artist like Asake could make billions from a single event. Yet, banks are more willing to give loans to car dealers than support musicians in organizing large-scale concerts, despite the potential for massive returns in a single day.
