How Suspected Cultists Beheaded Police Officer, Cut His Hands And Private Part Into Pieces
Gunmen, believed to be affiliated with a cult, have decapitated Bako Angbashim, the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of Ahoada in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, South-south Nigeria. This grim incident took place on Friday night.
As reported by PREMIUM TIMES, the victim, a superintendent of police, fell victim to suspected members of the Iceland cult group in Odemude, a community within the council area. The assailants set up an ambush while the DPO and fellow officers were in the midst of planning a raid on criminal hideouts in the vicinity.
A widely circulated video clip from Friday night depicted the horrific scene, showcasing the dismembered remains of Mr. Angbanshim. In the footage, the assailants can be heard chanting victory songs amidst the officer’s tragic demise.

Despite repeated attempts to contact the police spokesperson in Rivers State, Grace Iringe-Koko, no response was received for comment. Nevertheless, Mrs. Iringe-Koko, also a superintendent of police, confirmed the DPO’s tragic demise in a statement issued on Saturday morning.
According to the police spokesperson, the DPO was fatally shot after his fellow officers exhausted their ammunition during a confrontation with the cult group. She recounted, “In the face of this adversity, SP Bako Angbashim, valiantly held his ground while his men, depleted of ammunition, made a tactical retreat. Regrettably, during this engagement, SP Bako Angbashim sustained fatal injuries.”
The perpetrators forcibly took possession of SP Bako Angbashim’s body, compelling the remaining officers to return to their base for reinforcements, as recounted by Mrs. Iringe-Koko. Due to the dense darkness at that time, some officers and the military reinforcement team were unable to retrieve the DPO’s body from the criminals.
She further revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Polycarp Nwonyi, has expressed an unwavering determination to apprehend the culprits behind this heinous act. An extensive investigation is currently underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
The police spokesperson conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the state’s police force to the family of the slain DPO and all those affected by this distressing incident.
