The suspension, granted by Justice Chacha Mwita, will remain in place until Gachagua’s petition is heard. Gachagua was impeached by the Senate on Thursday night while he was hospitalized, with 281 MPs voting in favor and one abstaining. He faced 11 charges, and the Senate upheld five.

The court also halted the appointment of a new Deputy President.
