Just In: Gunshots Fired As Former Reps Member Joan Mrakpor Abducted In Delta Church ; One Dead In Shooting

Joan Mrakpor, a former House of Representatives member from Delta State, has been kidnapped by armed assailants during a church service. The incident, which occurred in Asaba, the state capital, was marked by heavy gunfire that caused panic among churchgoers.
The abduction took place inside the church, with witnesses reporting intense commotion and gunshots. During the chaos, one of Mrakpor’s aides was killed, and a security officer was left unconscious. The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and reported that one police officer was killed during the attack. The police are actively pursuing the suspects.
Joan Mrakpor, a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, represented the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency in the House of Representatives. Known locally as ‘Ada Anioma,’ her kidnapping has raised significant concern within her community and church.
The police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, assured that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the kidnappers, with further details to be released as the investigation progresses.
Recent reports indicate a troubling trend of abductions and violent incidents in both the Southeast and South-South regions of Nigeria.
